PIND Khatkar Kallan di Yaatra. The village where Shaheed Bhagat Singh wa sborn and was raised. Its a very important place historically, but the condition it is in today is really heart breaking. Its nothing more than just another house on the block for the government.
I visited the village along with a friend of mine to see it for myself. The roads have been named after his name, but the roads as well as the mile stone are lying in dilapidated condition and are full of cheap advertisements pasted on the face. Th home itself seems to be managed, but no one in particluar feels any honor for having done so… here are the images that narrate the story themselves:

Was this what Shaheed Bhagat Singh sacrificed for? A dilapidated Mile Stone?

Thanx PP for sharing the pictures wit us…
PP rocks!!
Indeed. There is no need to have Bhagat Singh’s photograph on the currency. What would that achieve anyway?
The need is to understand what he stood for.

my salute to my nation and the great warrior
I am a Britsh national who is very close to her naitive country. I live in the district of SHaheed Bhagat Singh and feel very proud.
But the pictures above, sadly convey a very true and accurate record of the state the district is in. I agree with some of the comments above, it’s all well singing songs, painting pictures, writing books and articles but the real effort, in my opinion, is required in renovating the ancestrol home of this great individual!
On my last visit to India just last year it was brought to my attention that this district instead of being Nawanshare has no been renamed Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (SBSN) what an achievement!!! But the responsilbe parties/individuals are avoiding where the REAL work needs to take place. Why is the road leading to Bhagat Singh’s house broken? Why are there cheap posters outside the premises? Where’s the upkeep of the house? In my opinion there needs to be a committee formed (if not already) consisting of individuals and organisations from around the world to take the issues, form a foundation and make a difference. Lets not forget, the act of this young man made a huge impact on our lives in one way or another, he is our history.
I am ready to make a difference are you?
I reckon Punjabiportal already has taken the initiative by bringing out the truth. Thats how you found out about it isn’t it? The whole purpose behind this article was to shake the people from their slumber. If you want to start a committee/organistaion, we will help you with its online appeals and everything else that comes under our jurisdiction. That’s our area of expertise.
Punjabiportal has definatley taken the initiative and thank you! Like I said I live in the district and have visited the area on numerous ocassions and I have to admit that I never took much interest. Recentley I picked up a book which detailed the life of Bhagat Singh and it brought tears to my eyes along with rage and the anxiety to TRY and keep his name alive.
I am very passionate about this cause and would appreciate your knowledge and expertise in setting up a foundation/committee/organisation.
